Grade 4. lesson 10 intervals

An Interval in music is the distance in pitch from one note to another. Intervals are measured by the number of letter names from the lowest note to the upper, both lower and upper notes are included in the count.

Grade four students will be looking to name five different types of intervals. We no longer can just give the intervals numbers. Three of these types of intervals have been learnt in a previous grade, if you worked well with those you are just looking at adding two new types for grade four.

You may be asked to name the intervals beteen any two notes from either the major or the minor scales. Type and number including the new ones which are added to this grade.

All information required for intervals for grade four is in the music theory lessons book grade four.
Up to now the lower note in the intervals you have worked with have been the key-note. It is important for you to know the lower note will not necessarily be the key note, but the intervals will not be larger than an octave.
