Grade 4. lesson 11 writing rhythm to words

Writing a Rhythm to Words

In the examination you will have a choice between writing a rhythm to words or writing a four-bar rhythm.

In this lesson we concentrate on 'Writing a Rhythm to Words'

You will be writing the notation on just one line, you are only writing a rhythm not a melody. You will need to write the words underneath, so each syllable fits under the note it belongs. (the words are provided).

Usually the given words will be in verse form. Some words will have two or more syllables, each syllable will require its own note. Words with two or more syllables have to be split up, then reconnected with a hyphen.

As always examples have been given within the music theory lesson in grade four book. You will have a clearer understanding of how to approach this question once you have worked through the examples given in the lesson.
