New Clef for Grade Five, The Tenor Clef

In grade four we introduced a new clef named Alto Clef, we said this clef was also called the C clef. By now you will be familiar with the Alto Clef.

In this grade five there is another new clef, this time it is called the Tenor Clef, but it is also called the C clef. So, both the Alto and Tenor Clefs are 'C' clefs. The difference between them is the position they are placed on the staff (stave).

When you look at the example given on the first page for this lesson, notice how the Tenor Clef is resting on the second line from the bottom, the center point is now on the fourth line, therefore, the Middle C now sits on line four of the staff (stave). You will need to take extra care when writing either the Alto or the Tenor clef.

Remember the sharps or flats when writing the key signature, will be placed in a different place. Examples of these are given within the lesson.
