Grade 5. lesson 6 compound intervals

Compound Intervals

Intervals of more than an octave are known as compound intervals. In this grade we are moving beyond one octave.
How will this work?
We are going to be working with two octaves. Once we get into the second octave the intervals will be called compound intervals.
An interval of an 8ve plus a 5th is a 12th (not a 13th), and an interval of two octaves is a 15th.

The intervals can be referred to by two different names, here is an example:
A major 10th, can be called a 'compound major 3rd'.  In this lesson you will find many diagrams and information
making sure you fully understand. We have also built a chart showing the workings through all the second octave.
