Grade 1. exercise 8. the grand staff or stave

The Grand Staff or Stave

The grand staff or stave are two sets of five lines joined together with a symbol called a brace. More than two sets of five lines can be joined, sometimes we use three, four or more sets, that is when we are writing for many instruments.

Most musicians only use one set of five lines, but looking at piano music usually two sets which we call the grand staff or stave are used.
