Music Theory Examination Grades are Progressive and Cumulative

It is extremely important to study well. You are expected to have the right knowledge of your subject specified in the preceding music theory grades. This means lessons, exercises already studied.

Aim to achieve a high mark, starting with music theory lessons grade 1.
This will enable further progress with your studies of music theory grades.

The Music Theory Study Course

This music theory course follows the requirements of the questions for grades asked by most music theory examination boards.

Our lessons and exercise grades are following the questions asked in the syllabus of the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music).

 

Preparing for Grade 1.

For your preparation in grade one LESSONS you will find
18 music theory lessons.
These cover topics of,Naming Notes,
Time Values of Notes, Time Signatures,
All Major Scales required for grade 1.
Tonic Triads, Performance Directions,and much more...
if it's in the syllabus there is a lesson arranged for it.

For the preparation in grade one EXERCISES.
There are 18 exercises to help you work through the course.
Each exercise is a small test to evaluate your knowledge
gained from the lesson.
We advise you to complete each of the exercise section after you have studied the lesson, before moving onto the next lesson.
The answers for each of the exercises are included so you are able to keep check how well you are doing.

There is a 50 music theory question quiz complete with answers.

Preparing for Grade 2.

For your preparation in grade two.LESSONS you will find
17 music theory lessons. these will cover topics:
Notes and Ledger lines, Pitch of Sound, Simple Time Signatures,
Triplets, More Major Scales, Key Signatures, Grouping Notes,
Minor Scales, Intervals and much more...
If it's in the syllabus there is a lesson arranged for it.

For your preparation in grade two EXERCISES
There are 17 exercises to help you work through the course.
Each exercise is a small test to evaluate your knowledge gained from
the lesson. we advise you to complete each of the exercise section
after you have studied the lesson, before moving onto the next lesson.
You will find answers for each of the exercises,
so you will be able to keep check how well you are progressing.

There is a 50 music theory questions quiz, complete with answers.

Preparing for Grade 3.

For your preparation in grade three LESSONS.you will find

thus you will be able to keep check how well you are progressing.

Preparing for Grade 4.

For your preparation in grade four LESSONS you will find
17 music theory lessons, these will cover topics:
for new compound time signatures.
The Alto or C Clef. Introducing double sharps and double flats.
Duplets, and the technical names for the diatonic scales.
Writing Rhythm to Words. Ornaments used in
music like the 'trill and turn'
the acciaccatura etc... and many more.

The Ornament lessons have been grouped together
to form exercise 13. These cover lessons 13-14-15.

For your preparation in grade five LESSONS you will find
10 music theory lessons, these will cover topics:

Writing music in Open and Short Score. Compound Intervals. Chord Inversions,

so you will be able to keep check how well you are doing.
The Composing for Instrument and Voice have been set in two sections,
you will find Instruments in 9A and covering for composing for voice in 9B.
