Note Values Cheat Sheet

This is a cheat sheet of note values from the whole note to the sixteenth note.

With this cheat sheet you’ll learn the most commonly used note values in music. The cheat sheet is ready to print out in A4 format.

It shows an overview of each note value with its duration. I.e. its number of beats. It also shows how to count each note value in 4/4 time. Notes can fall on the “&” of a beat. For example “1 &”. It can also fall on the subdivisions “e” or “a”. Not all note values equals a number of beats. This poster or cheat sheet (if you want to print it in a smaller size) makes it easy learn the above. Btw. dotted notes are also included. A dotted note adds half of its value. For example, the quarter note lasts for 1 beat, and therefore the dotted quarter note lasts for one and a half beats. 1 + 1/2 beat = 1 1/2 beats.
